The region, named by the formidable Normans, now evokes images of rural tranquility: thatched farmsteads, grazing cattle on verdant orchards, and half-timbered villages reminiscent of postcard scenes. Day 1: Arrival & Paris way of life
At 5 p.m., our tour guides will warmly welcome you aboard in Paris for embarkation. Once you've settled into your cabin, you'll have the opportunity to relax and unpack. Shortly after, your tour guide will provide a detailed explanation of the itinerary, ensuring you're well-informed about the exciting journey ahead.

At 9 p.m., it's time to cast off as the VIVA begins its voyage towards Normandy. As you bid farewell to Paris, anticipate the adventures awaiting you along the picturesque Seine, leading towards the charming landscapes and historic treasures of Normandy.

Day 2: The Capital of Normandy: Rouen
You depart from the Ile de France overnight and wake up to the serene beauty of Normandy in the morning. Enjoy the scenic ride aboard your ship as it gracefully navigates the wide loops of the Seine, passing by quaint villages, verdant meadows, and densely forested hills.

Your exploration of Normandy begins with a guided tour of the old town of Rouen in the afternoon. Rouen exudes medieval charm with its iconic clock tower and magnificent cathedral. The towering spires of the cathedral dominate the city's skyline, evoking a sense of grandeur and history. A poignant reminder of the city's past unfolds at the square "Du Vieux Marché," where Jeanne d’Arc, the Maid of Orleans, met a tragic fate, being burned as a witch.

Your ship will remain moored overnight in Rouen, allowing you ample time to wander the medieval streets and soak in the city's ambiance. A special treat awaits in the summer months: as the sun sets, the cathedral is bathed in a mesmerizing light show accompanied by music (available from June 1st to September 15th). We highly recommend experiencing this captivating spectacle after dinner. It's just a short 15-minute walk from the ship to the cathedral portal, where you can witness this enchanting display free of charge.

Day 3: Mighty Monastaries | Approx. 28 miles / 45 km
After a satisfying breakfast on board, your e-bikes will be ready for departure near the jetty, ready to whisk you away from the city along charming, lesser-known streets as you embark on the "Route of the Romanesque Monasteries." Along this scenic route, you'll encounter two of Normandy's most picturesque river loops, each offering stunning vistas of the countryside.

Your cycling adventure will lead you to the magnificent ruins of the Jumièges monastery, a Benedictine abbey dating back to the 11th century and renowned as one of France's most impressive historical sites. Amidst these ancient ruins, you'll pause for a delightful picnic lunch, surrounded by the rich history and serene beauty of the abbey.

After lunch, you'll pedal back along the Seine, immersing yourself once again in the Romanesque charm and romance of the landscape as you approach the gates of Rouen. In the afternoon, a brief transfer will shuttle you back to the city and your awaiting ship.

As the evening descends, your vessel will resume its journey towards the Atlantic, leaving behind the tranquil beauty of Normandy as you continue your voyage along the Seine, filled with memories of historic landmarks and scenic vistas.

Day 4: Picturesque Alabaster Coast | Approx. 38 miles / 60 km
In the morning, we'll whisk you away to the enchanting Côte d'Albâtre, renowned as one of the most breathtaking stretches of the Norman coast. Nestled amidst the towering chalk cliffs lies the picturesque seaside resort of Étretat, captivating all who visit with its spellbinding beauty. As you traverse along a cliff path (an easy hike), the awe-inspiring grandeur of this landscape unfolds before you, with its imposing needle-shaped formations that have inspired countless artists, including Boudin, Monet, and Manet

After taking a leisurely break to soak in the surroundings, you'll embark on a delightful cycling journey along charming streets, winding through quaint Norman villages, past sprawling farms dotted with white cattle, and alongside small châteaux until you reach Tancarville. From Tancarville, a convenient transfer will whisk you back to the ship, patiently awaiting your return in Caudebec-en-Caux, allowing you to reflect on the day's adventures amidst the serene beauty of the Seine.

Day 5: King Lionhearts Castle on white Cliffs & Monet's Home & Garden | Approx. 31 miles / 50 km
As your ship arrives at Les Andelys early in the morning, you'll be greeted by the majestic scenery of the Seine looping wide, carving steep cliffs out of the limestone landscape. Dominating the skyline are the mighty ruins of Richard the Lionheart's castle, offering a romantic backdrop to the charming half-timbered village nestled at the foot of the towering white cliffs.

From Les Andelys, your cycling adventure begins as you follow the Seine, then ascend along a high path to the graceful ruins of Richard the Lionheart's castle. Your knowledgeable guide will narrate the castle's significance and its dramatic decline, enriching your experience with historical insights. After exploring the castle, you'll stroll back to the ship, relishing the captivating scenery along the way.

At noon, your ship casts off, continuing its journey towards Vernon. In the early afternoon, you'll disembark for a memorable e-bike excursion starting at the picturesque old half-timbered mill in Vernon. Cycling upstream along a former railway line, you'll journey to Giverny, where Monet's iconic water lily ponds and gardens await. The world-renowned impressionist lived here for five decades, and his green and pink house, enveloped by a delightful garden of his own creation, remains as if frozen in time. After exploring this enchanting oasis, you'll follow side paths along the Seine to the impressive Château de La Roche-Guyon, majestically perched amidst the white limestone cliffs. Here, your guides will regale you with the chateau's rich history as you admire the panoramic views from its gardens.

In the evening, you'll have ample time to unwind and enjoy the onboard amenities as the VIVA remains in Vernon until the next morning, allowing you to savor every moment of this unforgettable journey.

Day 6: Savoir-Vivre on the Seine
Today offers a leisurely day of cruising aboard the VIVA as we gracefully navigate the meandering Seine through the beautiful Ile de France region, eventually arriving in Paris.

During the afternoon, you'll have the opportunity to engage in an informative talk from your guide, delving into the rich tapestry of French culture, history, and its people. It's a wonderful chance to deepen your understanding and appreciation of this fascinating country as you glide along the tranquil waters of the Seine.

As you relax and take in the scenery, allow yourself to be pampered by the onboard amenities, whether it's enjoying a refreshing drink on deck, indulging in a spa treatment, or simply soaking up the ambiance of the ship.

In the evening, dinner will be served on board, offering a delightful culmination to a day of leisurely cruising. As night falls, you'll have the opportunity to reflect on the memories made during your journey along the Seine, with the glittering lights of Paris serving as a magical backdrop for your overnight stay on board.

Day 7: Paris Urban Quaters & Museum Orangerie | Approx. 17 miles / 28 km
In the morning, your adventure begins directly from the ship as you hop onto an e-bike and set off to explore the captivating streets of the most beautiful city in the world - Paris! Cycling along traffic-free or lightly-traveled roads, you'll experience the verdant side of Paris, all while admiring iconic landmarks from the unique perspective of a bike traveler.

Your journey leads you along the picturesque Canal St. Martin until you reach the Seine, where a breathtaking view of Île St. Louis and Notre-Dame Cathedral awaits. Cycling along the tranquil and car-free banks of the Seine via Pont Neuf, you'll pass by sights where once the roar of car traffic dominated.

In the Tuileries Gardens, you'll discover the Orangerie, home to Monet's impressive water lily cycle and other masterpieces by the Impressionists. A detailed guided tour will immerse you in the world of Monet and his contemporaries, offering insights into their artistic vision.

Following your cultural exploration, a delectable lunch will be served, offering a picturesque view of the obelisk of the Place de la Concorde and the iconic Champs-Élysées. Your journey continues along the Seine, passing by the gleaming gold statues of the Pont Alexandre III to the magnificent Invalides Cathedral. Tucked away between the French Parliament and the cathedral lies the enchanting Musée Rodin, a true gem amidst Paris's vast array of museums.

At the Rodin Museum, you'll discover the unique artistry of France's most renowned sculptor, Auguste Rodin, whose masterpieces such as "The Kiss" and "The Thinker" continue to captivate and move visitors with their intense sensuality. Adjacent to the museum lies a charming little park showcasing other important sculptures by Rodin, including "The Burghers of Calais".

After this final cultural highlight of your journey, you'll cycle back to the Place de la Concorde, concluding your Parisian adventure. In the evening, you'll be treated to an exquisite final dinner on board, savoring the memories of your unforgettable voyage along the Seine.

Day 8: Aurevoir Paris or extension
After a hearty breakfast on board, it's time to bid farewell to your floating home and embark on your disembarkation in Paris, the City of Light. If you're considering extending your stay in this vibrant city, we'd be delighted to recommend a hotel to suit your preferences and needs.

For a luxurious and centrally located option, you might consider the elegant Hôtel Ritz Paris, nestled in the heart of the city near the iconic Place Vendôme. Alternatively, the charming Le Meurice, with its opulent décor and stunning views of the Tuileries Garden, offers a quintessentially Parisian experience.

If you prefer a boutique hotel with character, Hôtel Providence in the trendy Marais district exudes charm and sophistication. For a cozy retreat with a touch of bohemian flair, Hôtel des Académies et des Arts in the lively Montparnasse neighborhood might be just what you're looking for.

No matter your preference, Paris offers a plethora of accommodation options to suit every taste and budget. Let us know your preferences, and we'll be happy to assist you in finding the perfect hotel for your extended stay in this enchanting city.

Of course, it is advisable to extend another night (or two) in Paris in order to experience this lively and fascinating city even more extensively.

It's important to note that we reserve the right to make changes to the timetable and program of our journeys. Factors such as high and low tides, maintenance work, and waiting times at locks and bridges may necessitate adjustments to the itinerary at short notice. While we strive to provide a seamless experience, occasional changes may be required.

In exceptional cases, hotel accommodation may also be necessary. Rest assured, our priority is to ensure the safety and comfort of our guests while providing an enjoyable and memorable journey. We appreciate your understanding and flexibility in such circumstances.

Extra Info | terranova customer Reviews
EASY: Rating a tour is one of the most difficult things we do. The bike route takes you through the picturesque landscape of the Seine Valley along the flat river slopes. The total distance by e-bike and on foot is 189 km. The bike routes mostly run on cycle paths with little traffic or on small side streets. For the hike on the coastal path, we recommend comfortable running shoes with a good treaded sole. All gradients are easy to ride with e-bikes! On an electric bike, we are giving this tour an easy rating. On your premium pedelec equipped with Bosch or Shimano mid-mounted motor, you can decide how much assistance you require. The difficulty rating will be entirely up to you.
    Fly to Paris Airport
The most famous and largest airport in Paris is Charles de Gaulle (CDG). The airport is located approx. 35 km northeast of Paris. The RER trains are the most practical and fastest way to get from Charles de Gaulles Airport to central Paris. The ride with the RER B takes about 35 minutes. The price for a single ticket is € 10 (no discounts for children). There are two RER stations at Charles de Gaulle Airport: Terminal 1-3 and Terminal 2. The RER trains go to both stations. A quick look at your flight ticket usually reveals to which terminal your flight is arriving and / or departing. Lufthansa and Germanwings usually fly to Terminal 1, while Easyjet and Air France land at Terminal 2. Charles de Gaulles Airport is very well signposted. To get to the RER, you just have to follow the signs “Paris by train” after leaving the baggage area. The RER train stops in all Paris RER stations (Gare du Nord, Châtelet Les Halles, Saint-Michel Notre-Dame, Luxembourg, Port Royal, Denfert Rochereau and Cité Universitaire). From there you can change to the metro trains. The ticket for the RER transfer from the airport to the city center is also valid for the metro, so you don't have to buy a new ticket. Please book your flight so that you arrive at Lyon airport no later than 3 pm, otherwise, you run the risk of yourself arriving too late at the meeting point on board the ship (5 pm) and unable to take part in the panorama tour.
The weather in Central France and Normandy can be capricious. During the day, the climate is usually pleasantly warm. In the evening it can get noticeably cooler.  In addition to clothing for dinner and cycling clothes, swimwear should not be missing in your luggage.
This tour offers an optional CO2 compensation program for a supplement through Atmosfair, a non-profit climate protection organization with a focus on travel. Your voluntary contribution will provide for the expansion of renewable energies in countries where they are scarcely available. See pricing.
Due to the changing requirements for entry, it is imperative that you stay up to date on requirements set by the country/countries that you are visiting. Please visit our Travel Restrictions Tool page and the country/countries government webpage for this information.

Documents: Before you travel, please check the passport and visa requirements of the country/countries you plan to visit. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have proper identification. For US citizens, the U.S. Passports & International Travel website is a good source of information. The Country Information tab provides details about passport validity, blank passport pages required, etc. It is important to research before you travel as airlines will not permit boarding if you do not have the required valid documents. We recommend that you make copies of your important documents and papers (insurance cards, etc.). Leave a copy at home and have a copy with you. In the unfortunate situation that you lose your original documents, having copies facilitates the replacement process.

*Important note: Please check on the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) status as once implemented, this will be required to visit any of the 26 Schengen-member countries for tourism, business, medical, or transit. This is an additional check on security rather than a visa.
  • Insurance: Before traveling, we strongly recommend you review your personal insurance and health insurance to ensure you have coverage appropriate to meet your needs, and the needs of your family and dependants, in case of any loss of property or illness, injury, or death.
