Landscape to dream of – On this trip you follow the most beautiful bike routes along the river Main and the Rhine. Admire the richness of the German cultural landscape and experience the highlights of German history and culture in the Rheingau. A dreamy, idyllic pleasure trip along the wine regions, which takes you back to the starting point – Frankfurt.

Itinerary:

Day 1: From Frankfurt to the Rheingau – 52 kilometers by bike
Cycle relaxed along the Main and along vineyards. The tour starts on the southern Mainufer and leads to the impressive medieval old town in Höchst. A short detour to the state capital of Mainz takes you through a 2000-year history. Here are still ancient Roman ruins and one of the most important dome on the Rhine. On the banks of the Rhine you will discover the splendid Biebrich Castle, a masterpiece that comes from the Baroque and impresses with its huge castle grounds. Let yourself be seduced by a taste of the Rhine Riesling at idyllic wine growing places along the picturesque promenade in Eltville!
1. Overnight stay at Hotel Schloss Reinhartshausen (category A) / Hotel Frankenbach – Mainzer Hof (category B)

Day 2: From Rheingau to the wine region Rhinehessen wine region – 31 kilometers by bike
Today, the cycle path leads you along the the Rhine. A little detour takes you to the world famous wine city of Rüdesheim. You take the gondola up to the Niederwalddenkmal and enjoy a unique view over the vineyards of the Rhineland. Afer crossing the river you get to Bingen! In Bad Kreuznach, the place of health, you can enjoy the largest open air inhalatorium in Europe. In the valley of the river you will find the popular photo motive of the medieval bridge where houses are build on.
2. Overnight stay at Hotel Fürstenhof (category A) / Hotel Michelmort (category B)

Day 3: Through Rheinhessen to Worms – 62 kilometers by bike
Before you lies a particularly charming cycle route through Rheinhessen. The town of Kirchheimbolanden still reminds you of the former county with its city walls, towers and cavalcades. In the footsteps of Martin Luther, the Romanesque cathedral, one of the most important medieval churches, awaits you in Worms. The highlight of the day is the walk through the grounds of the Jewish cemetery in Worms. It is the largest and oldest in Germany and guarantees an unforgettable experience.
3. Overnight stay at the Parkhotel Prinz Carl (category A) / Sandwiese Weingut Winzerhotel (category B)

Day 4: From Worms to Mainz – 47 kilometers by bike
Along the gentle hill chains and vineyards you will reach the historical Oppenheim, which is not only fascinating with its famous Gothic Katharinenkirche. Oppenheim is crossed by kilometers of underground passages, the origins of which are not yet fully understood. A guided tour offers you the opportunity to wander through these mysterious catacombs. The cycle route in the direction of Mainz, which is a significant bishop’s seat, leads along the Rhine through many places famous for its excellent wine.
4. Overnight stay at Hotel Hilton (category A) / Hotel Hammer (category B)

Day 5: From Mainz to Frankfurt – 36 kilometers by bike
You cycle comfortably over the Theodor-Heuss-Bridge, which connects the state of Rhineland-Palatinate with Hesse. On the Hessian shore, you can see the floods of the River Main pouring into the Rhine. This cycle route is characterized by a further beautiful view of the wine town of Hochheim. Hochheim is famous for the delicate Riesling wine, which especially the English kings particularly appreciated. The water on the bank accompanies you almost the entire way back to Frankfurt. At the end of your cycling trip, you will be rewarded with the “Handkäs mit Musik” (typical cheese of this region), a Frankfurt national dish, accompanied by an apple wine. The trip ends in Sachsenhausen, the starting point of your trip.
